New Orleans is home base. These are the 10 cities around it, each with the thing that actually makes the work there different.
Covington
The parish seat on the north shore, and a town with a historic core and a ring of much newer construction around it. Those are genuinely two different jobs.
Gretna
The seat of Jefferson Parish, on the west bank across from uptown. Much of the housing predates central air, so the question is usually where the ductwork can physically go.
Hammond
The largest city in Tangipahoa Parish, about 45 miles out and sitting between two metros. It carries a real commercial side alongside its residential streets.
Kenner
On the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain, and home to the airport. Post-war housing means the duct run usually crosses an unconditioned attic, which is where the problems start.
LaPlace
A river parish between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Hurricane Ida in 2021 means a lot of local equipment shares an installation date and, in places, a flood history.
Madisonville
A nineteenth century shipbuilding town on the Tchefuncte River. Much of it predates mechanical cooling and sits on the water, which shapes both halves of the system.
Mandeville
North shore lakefront, founded in 1834 as a retreat for New Orleanians. An exposed lakefront lot and a sheltered street inland are different conditions for the same unit.
Slidell
Northeast of the lake, a few miles inland and near the Rigolets. On ground with a flooding record, how high the outdoor unit sits stops being an afterthought.
St Rose
The nearest river parish, about two miles from the Jefferson Parish line. Residential streets and working buildings share the same few miles of the river corridor.
How Does the Map Break Down?
The 10 cities fall into four groups: the North Shore, the west bank and lake side, the river parishes, and inland and north. Which group you are in changes what the work tends to involve.
New Orleans itself sits in the middle of all of it, and everything on both service lists is available in every one of these places.
The North Shore
Covington, Madisonville, Mandeville and Slidell, all in St Tammany Parish across Lake Pontchartrain. Wooded lots, lakefront exposure and a fast-growing mix of old and new construction.
The west bank and the lake side
Gretna on the west bank and Kenner on the south shore, both in Jefferson Parish. Older compact housing in one, post-war suburban stock with attic ductwork in the other.
The river parishes
St Rose in St Charles Parish and LaPlace in St John the Baptist Parish, both on the Mississippi. Close in, with a mix of homes and working buildings along the corridor.
Inland and north
Hammond in Tangipahoa Parish and Baton Rouge in East Baton Rouge Parish. Away from the coast, which means winters that run cooler and a heating side that gets genuine use.

Do you work on businesses in all these areas?
Yes, the commercial side covers every city on the list. Commercial equipment carries a different load, runs longer hours and fails differently from a house system, so it is run as a genuinely separate side of the business rather than as residential work at a larger size.
Why does the work differ from city to city?
Because the housing stock and the ground under it are not the same everywhere. A Gretna house built before central air has no duct route, a Kenner house has its ductwork in a hot attic, and Baton Rouge runs cooler in winter than the coast. We work from what is in front of us in that city rather than applying one answer everywhere.
